Marc Rosner

Director of Ojai Council in Schools

"Practicing council – listening and speaking to one another from the heart – changes the nature of our relationships, brings perspective, awareness, empathy, and accountability, and makes us more capable and resilient as individuals and communities."

Marc became involved with council in 2005 when, as a parent volunteer, he became an intern and then a facilitator of classroom councils at his daughters’ elementary school. Practicing council and sharing the practice with others has been an expanding part of his life ever since. In addition to working with Council in Schools as a consultant, facilitator, trainer, and now CIS Co-Director, Marc was a member of the board of directors of The Ojai Foundation for many years, using council for organizational leadership and governance. He is a certified facilitator of Restorative Community Conferences. A former teacher, Marc is also a lawyer and mediator, providing legal representation and dispute resolution services to families, communities, businesses, schools, and organizations.

What is Way of Council (denne del vil blive undervist på engelsk):
Council is the practice of coming together in circle to listen and speak from the heart. The curriculum for council is the lives of those in the circle—heart and mind, body and spirit. When these are in balance we open to receiving new information of all types and to innovating based on that knowledge.

Way of Council is an ancient way and modern practice, whose roots are within the natural world, spanning diverse cultures and religions. This practice elicits an experience of true community, recognizing that each voice needs to be heard, that every person has a gift, a story to share, a piece of the whole.

Circle Ways offers an introduction to this Council for educators, parents, and youth workers, and prepares participants to begin circle facilitation in classes, schools, families, youth organizations, and with peers and colleagues.

This two day workshop is participatory, fun, relevant, and useful. It covers the history and basics of circle practices, formats and modalities, framing effective prompts, and how to use circle ways to further academic goals, social-emotional skill building, student chosen and directed curriculum, and youth leadership.

Introduction to Council also provides the foundation for a restorative justice approach to discipline.
The workshop is appropriate for Pre-K through post secondary educators.

HeartMath
